My talk was called The Clone Wars: Defending Godot Games From Reupload Scams.

Godot is open, accessible, and makes it wonderfully easy to get games into people’s hands. Unfortunately, exporting a game also puts a lot of its guts into other people’s hands. Some of those people are curious modders. Others are more interested in repackaging someone else’s work, publishing it under a new name, or using a familiar-looking game to trick players.

You can’t make a downloadable game impossible to inspect or copy. The trick is to stop thinking about absolute protection and start thinking about making abuse harder, more expensive, and easier to spot. That’s a mix of technical friction, a bit of threat modelling, and the less glamorous work of protecting your project’s identity.

There are lessons here from enterprise software, but I promise I didn’t come to a game-development conference to sell anyone an ISO audit.

The recording was published on June 3, 2026.
